Fake Eyelashes vs. Eyelash Extensions: Pros, Cons, and Key Differences

If you’re anything like us when we first entered the world of lashes, then you probably had a hard time differentiating lash extensions vs false lashes. Are they even different? Do they have similarities? Which one is better? Which one is best for you?

False Eyelashes

What They Are

fake eyelashes

False eyelashes are universally considered to be the sets or the bands you can apply at home yourself. They’re the ones you can get here at Method Lash

False lashes are made with synthetic plastics, mink, fur, and even human hair. They come in full band or individual clusters, depending on your needs.

Pros

When it comes to the cost of eyelash extensions vs false lashes, the latter tends to be more affordable. That’s because all you need to put on the lashes is, well, you! That means that even if you splurge a little and get better quality ones, they’d still be more affordable than having lash extensions done.

Since they’re the cheaper of the two, you’re less likely to get buyer’s remorse with false lashes. You won’t be stuck with a look you don’t like because you’ll be throwing money away if you have to get them redone. In contrast, you’re also free to take off your falsies if you’ve done them wrong or get too uncomfortable.

You can also take off falses eyelashes more conveniently. A properly laid lash will last anywhere from a few hours to a few days. If you’ve got a week-long soiree, these would be more than enough for the occasion. Right after that, you can just take them off easily!

Cons

When you just pick up any lash willy-nilly, chances are you’re going to get a cheap pair made with undesirable materials. These kinds of falsies could irritate your eyes or the areas around them. So it’s one of the cons that you could prevent from happening by getting decent pairs of lashes.

Compared to a professionally done lash extension, false lashes don’t look as natural. However, that’s not to say that they don’t look natural at all! That being said, if you don’t know what you’re doing just yet, your faux lashes will look less natural in comparison. You are at the mercy of your skills when it comes to falsies.

Eyelash Extensions

What They Are

eyelash extension

Eyelash extensions are done by a professional. Even removing them would require you to go back to the place where you had them done. You can’t (and should never) just yank those lashes off without help!

Both eyelash extensions and falsies are laid on your natural lash. Both are almost made with similar materials, too. Seeing as eyelash extensions are professionally done, they do tend to look better than a lash put on by yourself.

Pros

One thing about eyelash extensions is that they stay on for a loooooong time. They’ve been known to stay on for 4 to 6 weeks. They’re worth the extra cash if you’ve got a long vacation on the calendar. You’ve got to look your best for all the photos you take!

There’s also a reason why celebrities pay good money to get their lashes done. This ensures that they look great on and off the red carpet. You see, some people have a hawk’s eye when it comes to lashes and they can tell if they are properly done or not. If you really can’t be fussed about laying on lashes yourself, this could still be a worthwhile investment.

Cons

Professionally done false lash extensions do come with a pretty steep price tag. Though it’s a one-and-done service most of the time, having them maintained would add to that already huge bill! If you’ve got a pretty heavy set of lashes on, you may need that retouching!

It’s worth noting that professionals use stronger glue to make sure they stay on. This can irritate sensitive eyes right off the jump if you weren’t warned of the formulation beforehand. Speaking of the strong glue, it’s recommended you have your lash extensions removed professionally. You have to make time for this because, if you do this yourself, you may risk plucking off or destroying your natural lashes!

One other risk you take about these eyelash extensions is that they may gather dirt and grime over time. People often forget to take the time to clean them. A simple face wash isn’t enough. You’ve got to get in there and make sure they aren’t dirty! If you don’t know how to maintain your eyelash extensions, you’ll get eye irritations and reactions rather quickly.
